CHICAGO – Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel used personal email accounts and a personal email domain to communicate with government officials and political figures, according to hacked emails posted by WikiLeaks.
Emanuel’s personal account information turned up among the thousands of emails from John Podesta, Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s campaign chairman, The Chicago Tribune reported.
Emanuel registered his personal email domain, “rahmemail.com,”on May 16, 2011, the day he was sworn into office.
Adam Collins, a spokesman for the mayor, said Emanuel’s use of a customized email domain, or name, is common, and that it was created to ensure the mayor was not using a government email for personal or political purposes. He added that Emanuel has not and does not use a private email server like the one Clinton used to transfer emails. Collins did not say whether Emanuel has used either of the personal email accounts to conduct government business.
CAMARILLO, Calif. – The average price of gasoline in the U.S. inched up about a penny over the past two weeks to $2.26 for regular grade.
Industry analyst Trilby Lundberg said Sunday that the price rise came despite a dramatic drop in crude oil prices.
Lundberg says refiners and retailers kept the margins from oil price cuts to recover from previous losses. She also says a big gasoline tax hike in New Jersey helped push up the national average. The Lundberg Survey found the average price of midgrade gasoline remained at $2.54 a gallon while premium rose a cent to $2.76.
BILLINGS, Mont. – Scientists from the U.S. and Denmark are seeking to map out the plumbing system hidden inside the Earth’s crust that's responsible for the famous Old Faithful geyser and other hydrothermal features at Yellowstone National Park.
Throughout November the research team will conduct flights over the park using a giant, hoop-shaped electromagnetic system suspended from a helicopter. The device acts like an X-ray to determine where and how hot water flows beneath the surface.
The team also hopes to gain insights into the infrequent but sometimes massive hydrothermal explosions that occur in the park.
BEIRUT – Kurdish-led Syrian forces began an offensive Sunday to liberate the Islamic State group’s de facto capital of Raqqa, clashing with the extremists north of the Syrian city.
The United States, France and Britain said they would provide air support for the offensive, which was announced at a news conference by a coalition of Kurds and Arabs known as the Syria Democratic Forces. The coalition declined to provide details on how the group plans to oust the militants from the city, home to nearly 200,000 mostly Sunni Arabs and an estimated 5,000 IS fighters.
