The cross-country teams at Fort Lewis College ran to top-10 finishes at the NCAA South Central Regional Championship Saturday in Canyon, Texas.
The FLC women placed sixth out of 27 teams with 228 points, and the men finished eight of 29 with 253 points.
Adams State won the women’s race with 26 points. Colorado Mines placed second with 82 points and Western State was third with 87 points.
ASU took the top three spots in the race, with Malena Grover finishing in 21 minutes, 3.54 seconds. Eilish Flanagan was second in 21:15.05 and Roisin Flanagan was third in 21:21.51.
The Skyhawks were led by Erin Renner, who ran the course in 21:46.78 to place 11th overall. FLC’s Rebecca Bramley was 15th in 21:52.78, Anastaisia George was 49th in 23:13.25, Emily White placed 75th in 23:48.42 and Carly Wilborn finished 87th in 24:03.45 to close out FLC’s scorers. Emily Bryant placed 118th in 24:39.36 and Madison Obernesser finished 161st in 25:53.53 to round out the women’s team.
The men’s title was tightly contested between Adams State and Colorado Mines, and the Grizzlies slipped into first with 35 points. Colorado Mines finished with 38 points and Western State was a distant third with 129 points.
The race for first was just as close as the teams’. ASU’s Lucio Ramirez crossed the finish line first in 30:38.47 and teammate Elias Gedyon was second in 30:40.26, just ahead of Colorado State University-Pueblo’s Marcelo Laguera, who finished in 30:40.49. The next fastest runner was more than 10 seconds behind Laguera.
Hosava Kretzmann paced the Skyhawks with a time of 31:58.38, which was good for 25th overall. FLC’s Shawvan Levi placed 34th in 32:14.53, Bismarck Kipkilach was 40th in 32:33.21, Preston Charlie finished 71st in 33:30.06 and Steven Nez was 86th in 33:55.68. Sylas Schutt finished 109th in 34:29.93 and Cody Speece was 123rd in 35:06.58 to round out the team.
FLC’s volleyball team got swept by No. 17 Colorado Mines 25-13, 25-15, 25-13 Saturday in Golden.
Madeline Behr and Abby Tiesman led Colorado Mines’ (20-4, 14-1 RMAC) attack with 18 and 13 kills, respectively, and Marina Hansen dished out 47 assists.
Maddie LeBlanc led FLC (8-14, 4-11 RMAC) with 8 kills.
FLC will play Westminster (9-16, 6-11 RMAC) on Monday in Salt Lake City.
