State parks to offer free access on Colorado Day

Mancos State Park

In celebration of Colorado Day, Colorado Parks and Wildlife will offer free entrance to all 42 state parks Aug. 7.

Colorado Day was created by the Legislature to celebrate Colorado’s statehood, which was granted in 1876 by President Ulysses S. Grant.

State parks near Durango include Navajo State Park in Archuleta and La Plata counties, Mancos State Park in Montezuma County and Lone Mesa State Park in Dolores County.

Visitors will have free access to state parks on Colorado Day for day-use only. Other fees, such as reservations and camping will apply.
