I have been asked one more time to plug the second annual Birdie Fest that will benefit the Adaptive Sports Association.
So, here you go: The 54-hole challenge by nine of our area professionals will raise funds based on the number of birdies made during Thursday’s round at the Glacier Club. There remains time to pledge per birdie or donate a lump sum for this fun and worthy event. Please give ASA a call at 259-0374.
Also upcoming, the Durango High School boys golf team will host its annual invitational at Hillcrest Golf Club on Monday and Dalton Ranch Golf Club on Tuesday. Check with your respective course pro shops for open golf opportunities during these two days.
The First National Bank will host its 39th annual 1-2-3-4 Person Best Ball on Saturday. There is $500 in added prize purse, and the entry fee is $35 per person; 90-percent handicaps will be used for net scoring only. Coffee and doughnuts will be served at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, followed by the team draw at 8 a.m. The tournament will follow with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Call Hillcrest at 247-1499 to enter.
The Directory Plus Fall Classic 2-Person Best Ball will be played Sept. 14-15 at Hillcrest. Stop by the clubhouse or give them a call to get your name on the sign-up sheet.
Keep your calendar clear Sept. 21-22 for the most popular fall event at Dalton Ranch: The Four Corners Stroke Play will be played these dates and will bring together some of the best golfers from all over the region. Call 247-8774 to see if you still can get in on the action.

Team play will move Thursday to Hidden Valley Golf Course in Aztec.
I don’t know if you noticed, but some trees are starting to show a bit of yellow leaves, and you know what that means: easier tee times. You still can get in some quality golf later in the day and into the early hours of the evening. Grab a friend and get in some late afternoon golf while the sun still has your back.
