The Clubhouse Porch

First off, I want to thank everyone – and I mean just about everyone – who came up to me, emailed me, called me and text messaged me about last week’s headline on the Clubhouse Porch.

Reaction ran the gamut from disbelief to my brother-in-law wanting to see my new clubs. This was a great gauge to see how many of you can get past my mug and read my column. I am grateful to you all.

And, by the way, the clubs are just great; the jury is still out on my game.

One note of caution during this rainless summer: Be careful pulling your golf ball out of the cup on the greens; just a little bit of water in these cups seems to be attracting bees.

A reminder: You have until Friday to get your entry fees in for the 32nd Randango Golf Classic, which will be played July 27 at Hillcrest Golf Club. Proceeds from this event will go toward the Bryan Merry Memorial Scholarship fund for deserving young men and women who will be advancing their academic and athletic careers in college. The entry fee is $400 per team, which includes greens fee, cart, lunch and dinner.

The Hampton Inn-2 Person Shoot-Out Format tournament will be held July Sunday at Hillcrest. There is $500 in added purse and an entry fee of $50 per person. It’s a 1 p.m. shotgun start, and prizes will be awarded based on 100 percent handicaps with flights-net only.

The very popular Tarpley RV of Durango Women’s Chili Pepper Challenge is once again upon us July 16. This brings together the best female golfers from all over the Four Corners region. There is a whopping $1,500 in added purse and an entry fee of $65 person, and you can choose your own partner. Action begins with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.

Dalton Ranch Golf Club will host a Member/Member tournament Saturday and Sunday. The field is limited to 100 players, and tee times both days will begin at 8:30 a.m.
