Thank you to Jessica Obleton and other kind community members for taking the lead in resolving the school lunch/partial lunch outstanding debt problem that the 9-R superintendent and his administration failed to solve last year, even though he indicated he would bring a resolution to the matter.
I’m sorry the cafeteria employees felt the community’s upset was directed at them. It doesn’t seem to me that folks were angry at the kitchen staff, outside of the inappropriate sign that sparked the upset, but rather the deaf-ear 9-R administration.
As to the school board president, Shere Byrd, perhaps I don’t know her exact prescribed duties, but her scolding of Ms. Obleton and other concerned community members was misplaced.
If the superintendent was open to resolving the problem, he would have. Community advocacy or pressure is how Americans let our elected or appointed officials know we want change. Ms. Byrd will have to live with that or give up her elected position.
