Remember when we were all just sick of the dry conditions and wish we would get a little rain.

I always was told, as a little boy, be careful what you wish for.

We have had our share of rain, not as bad as the Front Range or some locations in New Mexico, and with it comes much greener conditions locally. I just wonder if this will speed us through a fast fall and into a harsher winter.

So, with this in mind, time’s a-wasting for you to get out and get some more rounds of golf in before the days grow shorter or the greens turn whiter. We still have some very good local tournaments on the schedule and more chances to get that swing right before some of us have to hoist that bag on the hook in the garage.

Dalton Ranch Golf Club

The rescheduled Dalton Ranch Golf Club Ladies Club Championship will be played Wednesday. The recent soggy conditions postponed the event, and I will have complete results for you next week.

Dalton Ranch will be hosting the popular Four Corners Stroke Play on Saturday and Sunday as golfers from all over the Four Corners come to compete on this challenging Animas Valley layout.

Hillcrest Golf Club will be welcoming the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference golf teams, both men and women (Fort Lewis College doesn’t have a women’s golf program), for two days of competition on Sept. 23-24, with shotgun starts at 9:30 a.m. both days.

The event will be preceded by a practice round Sunday, with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. The RMAC, including our own Skyhawks’ men’s program, has some of the best golfers in the Southwest.
