A tough start to the season got even tougher for the Fort Lewis College softball team.
After dropping four games over the weekend to Colorado Mesa in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opener for FLC, the Skyhawks were swept in a doubleheader again on Monday by No. 2 Dixie State. Fort Lewis was no-hit in a game one in a 12-0 five-inning loss and dropped the second game 5-1.
Dixie State’s Aryn Feickert and Brooklyn Breadshear were untouchable in the circle for the Red Storm to open the day’s action. The two hurlers combined to throw a no-hitter in the first game striking out five Skyhawks and walking two.
The mighty Red Storm offense plated 11 runs in the first three innings as Megan Redd and Rachel Foos struggled to get outs for the Skyhawks.
In game two, Missy Fundora had two of FLC’s three hits and scored the lone run for Fort Lewis in a 5-1 loss. Tehenia Telliano’s first-inning single allowed Fundora to cross the plate and tie the game at one, but Dixie State pulled away after that.
Olivia Goldberg went the distance for Fort Lewis in game two allowing four earned runs and eight hits.Fort Lewis will try to get back on track in a noon doubleheader Friday at UC-Colorado Springs.
