How to do universal health care in steps

Democratic candidates don’t have to die on the Medicare for all hill. There is no way on God’s green earth a Medicare for All bill will get through our divided congress. Obamacare barely passed.

States can write a clean proposal and put it directly before their voters. Bernie Sanders’ free college tuition plan does it state by state. A candidate could promise to support any state that comes up with a good universal health care proposal backed by its voters. This is how Canada did it, one province at a time.

If a state is able to develop a health care system where patients don’t have to worry about medical bills and doctors can practice medicine without dealing with 50 different insurance companies, others will follow.
