City Manager Ron LeBlanc’s arrogant dismissal of county residents in urgent need of water is disgraceful. Has Durango become so elitist that residents cannot be expected, nor even asked, to conserve for the benefit of others? Does their idea of community end at the city limits? Is this some sort of class warfare? And for LeBlanc to then fault those desperate individuals for “buy(ing) a house that doesn’t have reliable water” is simply vile. I can just picture him shrugging his shoulders like Marie Antoinette: “Let them drink ditch water!” And it’s not only the Dryside. During this “exceptional drought” there are many of us who for the first time fear that our wells will fail. But it seems we peasants must be resigned to spending our pennies in the Kingdom of Durango, where lawns are verdant and gardens lush, and where city officials see thirst as our lot in life.
