It is certainly ironic that those who would be most suspicious of “big brother” (as the term applies to central government) would invite “big brothers” (the Koch brothers) into our local affairs.
I refer of course to the dishonest petition to remove Gwen Lachelt. I doubt that there are many who do not know that Americans for Prosperity is a political action arm of the billionaire Koch brothers. They inherited a family business born in pollution, and they want none to question that, not even a county commissioner.
The premise of the recall is completely false. I am surprised to learn that there is no threshold of truth that a petitioner must meet.
The citizens of La Plata County should refuse to sign this phony petition. And they should think about imposing some accountability on the proponents of fraudulent petitions such as this.
