Why would any property owner in the City of Durango or La Plata County vote for the property tax increases called for on the ballot questions?
We already pay more for fire protection with our property taxes than we pay for our fire insurance with our homeowners policies.
Do you want your money going towards a fire department that historically wastes much of what voters gives it with tax increases?
We increased the mill levy so they could build more fire stations. We increased it again and they bought new firetrucks, but guess what? The firetrucks didn’t fit inside the stations that were just built. Those new stations were torn down and had to be rebuilt.
Do you want your hard-earned dollars going to a fire department that may or may not be there when you need it, or would you rather have your dollars go to an insurance policy that will completely rebuild your burned-down home better than it was?
