Your recent front page article (Herald, Feb. 2) quoting Gwen Lachelt got my attention when she remarked that the citizen recall movement was a waste of taxpayer money because she was term-limited, etc.
Really? Seriously? Did she forget that she approved spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to purchase the document that she and staff were to develop, but did not, and now she has the audacity to accuse the citizens of wasting their own taxpayer money?
Wow, that’s nothing short of stunning, and laughable to boot. By now, it’s pretty obvious to La Plata County citizens that the county commissioners cannot be trusted to wisely use taxpayer resources and must have a shorter leash in their transactions. It is further evident that the county commissioners have entirely too much power at their fingertips, enabling them to force feed citizens rules they develop without the citizens being able to approve or disapprove of their actions by an up or down vote.
Finally, we see Gwen Lachelt’s true colors. Do the right and gracious thing ma’am, and step down.
