CPR, first aid classes to be held in Bayfield

The Upper Pine River Fire Protection District will offer CPR and first aid classes at the Pine River Library, 395 Bayfield Center Drive.

The next CPR class will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Aug. 23 in the library’s community room. The cost for the class is $35. First aid training will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Aug. 23, also at the library. The cost for first aid is $30. Advance sign-up is required.

Life Line screenings to be held in Durango

Residents living in and around Durango can be screened to reduce their risk of having a stroke or bone fracture.

Durango Masonic Temple will host Life Line Screening on Sept. 13 at 421 Turner Drive in Durango. Screenings identify potential cardiovascular conditions such as blocked arteries and irregular heart rhythm, abdominal aortic aneurysms and hardening of the arteries in the legs, which is a strong predictor of heart disease. A bone-density screening to assess osteoporosis risk also is offered and is appropriate for both men and women. Packages start at $149. All five screenings will take 60 to 90 minutes to complete.

Input sought from Medicaid clients

The Colorado Cross-Disability Coalition, Southwest Center for Independence and Rocky Mountain Health Plans will host a meeting from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the La Plata County Fairgrounds, Animas Room, 2500 Main Ave.

The purpose of the meetings is for Medicaid clients to inform Rocky Mountain Health Plans what is and is not working about how they receive their health care. The meeting also will offer an opportunity for Medicaid clients and their families to learn about new initiatives of Rocky Mountain Health Plans and will have advocates available to help people with individual problems related to Medicaid. Lunch and a small gift will be provided.

Free women’s hormone evaluations offered

Free women’s hormone health evaluations will be offered Friday at Durango Natural Medicine, 117 East Animas Road (County Road 250).

Radon awareness celebration to be held

The Four Corners Office for Resource Efficiency and the Colorado State University Extension Office have partnered to bring Healthy Homes & Radon Awareness to La Plata County.

The community is invited to attend the final celebration event from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Aug. 19 at the La Plata County Fairgrounds, La Plata Room, 2500 Main Ave. Lunch will be provided. This free public event will showcase successes of the Healthy Homes and Radon programs, provide ongoing community resources and discuss next steps with local leaders and EPA staff.
