The Durango High School boys tennis team got to play its first match on its newly refinished court on Friday against Fruita Monument.
Darkness, however, prevented the final match from being concluded with Durango trailing the Wildcats, 4-2.
Rowan Hall scored a win for DHS at No. 3 singles in a tiebreaker set. Hall won his match, 5-7, 6-1 and 10-7.
The team also got a win at No. 2 doubles from Leo Stritikus and Will Stritikus. That match also needed a tiebreaker, but the DHS duo emerged with a 6-4, 4-6 and 10-7 win.
At No. 1 singles, Griffin Hall lost a tight match 6-3 and 6-4.
At No. 2 singles, Calan Barnhardt lost an even closer match 6-5 and 7-5.
At No. 1 doubles, Carter Ward and Tanner Coddington fell 6-3, 6-3.
The No. 3 doubles match, meanwhile, was called because of darkness. Will Benac and Nate Claassen lost the first set 6-1 before it was called.
DHS and Fruita will play again today, beginning at 9 a.m. at DHS. It will be Durango’s final home match of the year.
