The Dark Act is here! The “Deny Americans the Right to Know” Act will be introduced soon. The Grocery Manufacturers of America, Monsanto and their allies have joined forces to get a bill that would block labeling of genetically engineered foods.
This bill called The “Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act” (seriously) will be introduced by Reps. Pompey and Butterfield. The bill if enacted will:
Prevent states from adopting their own GE labeling laws. This would pre-empt Vermont, Connecticut and Maine’s labeling laws that were recently passed.
Block any attempt by states to make it illegal for food companies to put a “natural” label on products that contain GE ingredients.
Continue a “voluntary” labeling policy of the FDA. This has been in place for 13 years, and to date, not one company has done so.
Please call our senators and representative and ask them to vote “No” on this and any similar bill.
