Bayfield track owns boys All-Intermountain League awards

BHS locks up IML track and field season awards

Bayfield High School owned the boys side of the Intermountain League track and field awards.

The Wolverines turned in 10 first-team All-IML performances, which were awarded to event winners at the league championship meet.

Those achievements earned BHS co-head coaches Gary Heide and Sherry Kimbal the IML Boys Coach of the Year award.

BHS senior Aubry Brown was named the boys field athlete of the year after being named a first-team performer in the discus and shot put.

Brian Mashak was first team in the 100- and 100-meter dashes while anchoring the Wovlerines 4x100- and 4x200-meter relays that were named first-team All-IML, earning him the field athlete of the year.

Conner Kennedy secured the first-team All-IML spot in the long jump, all but a formality after his state championship leap of 23 feet nearly broke the state record.

That performance also earned him first-team all-state recognition from CHSAA.

Carl Heide (110-meter hurdles), Gus Roberts (400-meter run) and Michael Voss Michael Voss (pole vault) also were All-IML.

Jessie Roukema took All-IML honors in the high jump, and Katie Hawkins was the league’s top pole vaulter on the girls side.

Alamosa’s Larry Zaragoza won the girls coach of the year, while the Mean Moose’s Emma Heminger won the track athlete of the yar and Jaci Palmer won the field athlete of the year.
