The Colorado High School Activities Association has released is 2015 CHSAA State Football Playoff schedule, and the Bayfield High School football team received a No. 1 seed in the 2A bracket.
The Wolverines finished the regular season undefeated at 8-0 overall and 5-0 in the 2A Western Slope South League, and a No. 1 regular season CHSAA ranking. Bayfield squares off against the 16th seeded Manitou Springs Mustangs (3-6, 3-2 2A Tri-Peaks League) at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 7 at Wolverine Country Stadium in Bayfield.
The Bayfield offense finished the year scoring 318 points as the defense allowed a mere 49 points on its way to the regular season 2A Western Slope South championship.
Notable win came against Kirtland Central (5-4, 4-0 4A District 1) and Miyamura (3-6, 0-3 5A District 1) to open the 2015 season. Kirtland is a New Mexico 4A team and finished first in its league. Bayfield not only won that game, but blew Kirtland out with a 43-0 score. Miyamura may have finished last place in league, but a 5A school is still tough when faced against a 2A school. Bayfield won 34-20 in the second game of the season.
The Wolverines have plenty of weapons as they’re led by a senior class that has plowed its way through the season. Senior Zane Phelps highlights this 2015 class by finishing his final year with 1,168 yards rushing with 19 total touchdowns. Phelps also finished with 35 tackles at linebacker.
