Health-care center adds music program
Four Corners Health Care Center and Junction Creek Rehabilitation, 2911 Junction St., announces its certification in the Music and Memory Program.
It is one of only eight centers in Colorado to receive this certification.
Music and Memory is a program dedicated to enriching the lives of residents with Alzheimer’s through personalized music playlists.
People are invited to donate an iPod or music CDs that are no longer needed or an iTunes gift card to help expand residents’ music selections.

System diseases and the eyes discussed
Four Corners Eye Clinic will offer a community lecture by Dr. Karyn Bourke, a board certified vitreoretinal surgeon, at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave.
Bourke will discuss “Your Eyes: A Window to Your Health.” The discussion will be on how system diseases (diabetes, heart disease, hypertension) can present in a patient’s eyes.

March is Brain Injury Awareness Month
Throughout March, which is Brain Injury Awareness Month, the Colorado Brian Injury Program is raising awareness through a green-ribbon campaign.
Brain-injury survivors and their supporters will be wearing green ribbons and sharing stories about their experiences with brain injury recovery.
The Colorado Brain Injury Program was established in 2002 by the Colorado Legislature to provide statewide care coordination and services to children and adults with traumatic brain injuries, to sponsor educational programs and to fund research.
Brain injuries can affect personality, thinking and emotions. School or work performance may be impaired. Daily activities, such as planning, organizing and communicating may become challenging.

Free thyroid clinic available Friday
A free thyroid assessment clinic will take place Friday at Durango Natural Medicine, 117 East Animas Road (County Road 250).
The thyroid gland is known as the master gland of metabolism because it controls people’s ability to make energy.
Poor thyroid function can cause fatigue, depression, weight gain, digestive problems and many other health issues.
The free consult with Dr. Nancy Utter will determine if a person’s thyroid gland needs help.
