We should be concerned with LPEA’s decision concerning renewable energy that will affect the rates charged in the future. I wrote an opinion published on Dec. 8 advocating to stay in Tri-State because they took major steps to adopt a renewable energy future that I believe will serve ratepayers better than LPEA being independent. I think leaving will cost more and be more unreliable. Despite my efforts, I have received feedback from the LPEA board president and the new manager that LPEA will leave Tri-State and purchase energy from for-profit companies. I do not see a glimmer of hope that LPEA will declare victory and stay with Tri-State, so I must declare defeat.
