Bayfield Wolverines win in five against Centauri

BHS digs deep when it matters most

The Bayfield High School volleyball team dug deep when it mattered most in a five-set league showdown Friday.

The 13th-ranked Wolverines were on their home floor to host the Centauri Falcons, and BHS clawed to a key 3-2 win (25-15, 21-25, 25-13, 24-26, 15-13).

Melissa Roberts had a massive night with 21 kills, while Macee Schulz added 15 for the Wolverines (5-3, 3-3 3A/2A Intermountain League). BHS head coach Terene Foutz said the team’s middle hitters also collectively had a solid performance.

Sage Killough distributed 54 assists in the match. Emily Nelson led the defense with 19 digs, while Myrah Abdulla-Boehm also had 17.

Foutz was impressed by the serving of Karyssa Gosney.

“She had a great serving night, hitting key locations,” Foutz said. “She was very disruptive to the Centauri serve receive late in the match.”

An even bigger league match awaits the Wolverines at 2 p.m. Saturday, as seventh-ranked Alamosa will come to town. BHS lost 3-1 to the Mean Moose (6-1, 3-1 IML) earlier this season.
