It is unfortunate, but not surprising, that the Herald and David Brooks want us to refrain from considering right-wingers as “stupid.” (Herald, June 15)
Brooks has been making excuses for conservative biases, blunders and mal-assumptions for decades. Most media have given the right wing base cover for thinking and acting stupidly since the conservative right wing assault on liberals began in the early ’90s with the ascendance of Newt Gingrich, Rush Limbaugh, Donald Trump and others of their ilk.
But reality is hard to duck. The dictionary defines “stupid” as “benumbed, astonished, dull of mind.” And as the sage American commentator Forrest Gump’s mother opined, “Stupid is as stupid does.”
