I lived in San Diego for almost 50 years before moving to Southwest Colorado. From time to time, I did business in Baja California. I had to have the proper insurance for my vehicle along with ID, as well as a work permit that had time limits. Without these papers, I faced possible jail time in Mexico.
I cannot wrap my head around the complete disregard for U.S. law by publishing the “KNOW YOUR RIGHTS” flyer from Companeros Four Corners Immigrant Resources Center on the Opinion Page (Herald, Aug. 27). There will never be a comprehensive immigration bill as long as Democrats demand an instant path to citizenship.
Amnesty? Forget it. President Reagan gave almost 3 million illegals living in this country in 1986 amnesty in return for the Democrat controlled Congress to secure the southern border. Obviously, Sen. Joe Biden never got the memo on that deal. Don't tell me how illegals pay FICA and never benefit. Left wing think tanks came up with that meme because the Social Security Administration has never disclosed that information.
Finally, I think I may be come a Democrat so I can pick and chose the laws I want to obey and ignore the rest.
