The number of gun violence incidences that take place, in this day and age, is an atrocity. The fact is that there are too many people who should not have access to guns, but are able to “legally” buy a gun, and use it to harm themselves, or some other human being.
I do not say that firearms should be totally outlawed in the United States, or that the Second Amendment should be repealed, but I know for a fact that there should be more control over who is able to buy a gun, or even own a gun.
Also, I know that there is no logical or moral reason for any average person to own a weapon that is meant to kill another human being during an act of war, specifically assault-style weapons, and weapons of mass destruction. I, too, own hunting rifles, so I’m not against gun ownership.
When the Second Amendment was written, the writers realized that the need to own a firearm was necessary to, both defend ourselves from invading forces, and to provide food for our families. Also, the firearms were mostly single shot, muzzle loaders.
I’ve heard the phrase “the good guy with a gun took out the bad guy with a gun.” What people don’t realize, is, that even though the “good” guy may have been justified, he is also a victim. I know that, even in war, taking another’s life leaves a scar, that never heals.
