If not La Plata County, who?

  • Who snowplows the roads to get you to the doctor’s office?
  • Who protects you when you are threatened?
  • Who helps your neighbor who has gotten laid off?
  • Who helps low-income parents feed their children?
  • Who records deeds, titles, marriage and birth certificates?
  • Who provides fair, accurate elections for all levels of government?
  • Who provides healthy meals for grandparents and lonely seniors?
  • Who orders the first slurry bomber to a growing wildfire to protect your home?
  • Who clears the road when a rockslide or mudslide blocks it?
  • Who collects the taxes and distributes them to libraries, fire protection, schools and districts.
  • Who inspects buildings to ensure structures are safe?
  • Who inspects restaurants to ensure you don’t get sick from foodborne illnesses?
  • Who coordinates health care services between hospitals, doctors and national health care providers?
  • Who pays for the District Attorney’s office and the court system?

La Plata County does all of these and more every day at a minimum cost. However, the county can squeeze only so much out of each dollar. You get what you pay for and we haven’t been covering the cost of county operations. How do we return to the level of service you expect and demand?

It’s simple. Let’s work together by voting “yes” on the 1% sales tax Increase for La Plata County to provide the funds needed to maintain core services. That’s 1%, a penny on every dollar that adds up to millions to funds essential services.
