Warren Schiller stands on the right in front of his business on Mill Street in Bayfield. Next to him is an unidentified man. The garage, located on the northwest corner of Mill and Pearl streets, sold products from the Continental Oil Co. Schiller’s family, along with William and Laura Bay, donated property to establish the town of Bayfield in 1898. A coin flip decided the name of the city; had Schiller won, it would have been called Schillerville. The building shown in the photo is now the Pine River Valley Heritage Museum. – Ed Horvat for Animas Museum, edhorvat@animasmuseum (Catalog Number: 10.05.332 from the La Plata County Historical Society Photo Collections)
