The local Sarah Platt Decker chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution provides service throughout the year.

As an example, Oct. 23 was nationally designated by DAR as a day to support projects in local and impactful ways. This chapter spans Archuleta and La Plata counties, and the members decided to deliver cookies to first responders who have helped the communities.

Durango and Pagosa members baked and delivered more than 10,700 cookies to 18 first responder locations in Durango, Pagosa Springs, Ignacio and Bayfield. This included multiple fire departments, police departments and sheriff departments as well as the Archuleta Emergency Operations Center, Emergency Medical Services, State Troopers, the Humane Society and Animal Control.

DAR is an international women’s service organization of women from diverse backgrounds. It is nonprofit and nonpolitical with objectives to preserving the memory and spirit of the men and women who achieved American independence.
