On behalf of the Emergency Warming Center Council, I’d like to thank the Durango City Council, city manager, directors and volunteers for their clear and compassionate support of the Emergency Warming Center.
Not only did the council approve the use of Sacred Heart Parish Hall for the center, councilors provided funding so that guests could be transported from the Transit Center to the Parish Hall and return, which will hopefully mitigate concerns of the school district.
Behind the scenes, the support and work of José Madrigal, Bob Brammer, Jayme Lopko, Brice Current and Luke Alvey-Henderson were instrumental in bringing this project to reality.
Finally, thanks and gratitude to all of the volunteers who supported this project, conducting the neighborhood survey and attending council meetings. That support demonstrates great concern for those needing warmth and support. For many bitter cold nights this winter, people seeking warmth will have a place to go, sleep and get a warm meal. We send our gratitude to all of you.
