Bayfield High School’s girls basketball team hung tough with the No. 3 team in Class 3A for awhile Friday But Alyssa Bagwell of the Centauri Falcons would quickly put the Wolverines away.
Centauri took a 15-6 lead on Bayfield after one quarter on Friday night at the BHS gymnasium, but Bagwell hit two quick 3-pointers to open the second quarter, and the visiting Falcons would outscore the Wolverines 18-1 in the second quarter. It was a similar story in a 17-0 third quarter for Centauri (8-1, 4-0 3A Intermountain League) en route to a 61-12 road win.
Bagwell finished with 15 points, as did senior forward Courtney Hamilton. Brenna McDaniel added 10 points for Centauri.
Cayanne Carlson led BHS (0-7, 0-4 IML) with six points. Madison Wells scored four points.
Bayfield will get some time off before a Thursday trip to Montezuma-Cortez. The Wolverines had their best chance at a win yet this season in a 43-41 home loss to the same Panthers.
