The Charter School Institute in Denver on Friday recognized Animas High School as one of 10 charter schools to earn its Performance with Distinction rating.
The designation goes to Charter School Initiative schools judged to be in the top quarter of the state based on 2016-17 academic performance.
Animas High School, 271 Twin Buttes Ave., serves more than 250 students in grades nine to 12 with a student-centered, project-based curriculum and a hands-on approach to enhance critical thinking and to make real-world connections.
The Charter School Institute is a statewide charter school authorizer, and it currently authorizes 41 schools in Colorado serving more than 17,500 pre-kindergarten to 12th-grade students.
