If Bayfield wants to sell retail or medical marijuana, members of the town board want to have an idea if it will make money for the town or not.
Students in a local economic development course at Fort Lewis College have developed a marijuana fiscal impact model for the Town of Bayfield. They will present the results of their model at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 24 at Bayfield Town Hall at 1199 Bayfield Parkway.
The students have worked this semester under the guidance of Deborah Walker, a professor of economics at FLC.
The Town of Bayfield currently prohibits the licensing or operation of marijuana cultivation, manufacturing and testing facilities, as well as retail marijuana stores and related uses.
The town also prohibits medical marijuana centers, optional premises cultivation operations or medical marijuana infused products manufacturing businesses.
The town requested assistance from FLC in an effort to determine potential fiscal impacts of lifting the prohibition, according to Town Manager Chris LaMay.
