My son was a passenger in the fatal motor vehicle collision near Bondad on the night of Dec. 11. I wish to express my most sincere thanks to the community for the outpouring of support and well wishes, and especially to the first responders and an anonymous good Samaritan who had stopped to render aid.
I wish to express my deepest, most sincere thanks to the kind soul who stopped on the side of the road to render aid to my 12-year-old son after the motor vehicle collision that deprived him of his mother. In the aftermath of the collision, this person wrapped my son in a blanket and offered what comfort was possible. This gesture of kindness is one bright memory in a dark night of chaos and pain. That person cannot know how much this has meant to me and my family. Thank you does not seem to be enough, but it is all I have at this time.
I have given the Herald my contact information, and I would be happy to return the blanket, freshly laundered.
I started my career in firefighting as a volunteer not far from there. While I was not present to witness the work of the first responders, my son and others have described the scene and events of the night. I have been on similar scenes and made the same decisions. Thanks to them for their professionalism, dedication to duty, timely response, sound decision-making and solid skills.
While the final outcome was not what anyone would have wished, they were there, and they did make a positive difference in the lives of at least four patients and their families on that cold December night. My thanks to them.
