La Plata Electric Association recently appointed Dusti Riggs as a dispatcher after she completed a two-year apprenticeship program.
The dispatch team oversees system operations, monitors power flows and voltage, relays field calls, troubleshoots outages and communicates with crews when problems occur.
Riggs, having had an interest in the electric utility industry since high school, was hired at LPEA in 2006 as a meter reader collector and entered the apprentice dispatcher program in 2015. She was involved in technology updates and served on the dispatch team during her apprenticeship.
She worked part time for Valley Electric Association in Nevada and, after she graduated from high school, worked full time for five years as an apparatus and testing specialist, and in purchasing.
