A concert in the park and some children's activities might not sound like much, but it means the world to the Goldman family of Bayfield.
Along with a beer tent and silent auction, Saturday's OzFest raised some welcome funds for the family of Ozzie Goldman, who has rhabdomyosarcoma, a cancer made up of cells that normally develop into skeletal muscles. While Ozzie's family has health insurance, travel expenses to and from Children's Hospital in Denver have been expensive.
Ozzie's mom, Robin, said her son had a great time playing with his friends at the event.
"My kids hopped a lot!" said Mandy Houpt, a Bayfield mom and artist who organized the silent auction. Her two children enjoyed the bouncy house all afternoon. Volunteers from First Presbyterian Church in Durango, Bayfield School District, the Be FRANK Foundation, and other friends worked at the event throughout the day.
"This community is amazing," Robin Goldman wrote on facebook. "Team Oz is feeling the love!"
A benefit account for Ozzie Goldman has been established at First National Bank of Durango.
