The Ignacio Bobcats took the baseball diamond for the first time in 2014 on Thursday.
Ignacio High School (1-0) earned a 13-10 win against Farmington’s junior varsity team in one of two junior varsity brackets in the Piedra Vista Invitational in Farmington.
Ignacio scored seven runs in the fifth inning to earn the win in a five-inning game.
IHS sophomore Tucker Ward had a perfect 4-for-4 day at the plate with two runs scored. Anthony Manzanares was 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Clayton Jefferson, Iaasic Peña, Antonio Torres and Blaine Ward all had two hits.
The Bobcats tallied 19 hits in the game and batted .543 as a team.
IHS scored two runs in the first and four in the fourth. Farmington did most of its damage in a seven-run second inning.
The Bobcats will resume play in the tournament at 4 p.m. Friday at the Farmington Sports Complex.
