Coalition announces 2015 Health Hero

Members of the Community Health Action Coalition named Dr. Robert Cox as their 2015 Health Hero.

Cox has been involved with CHAC for several years and currently serves on the board and leads the marketing and sustainability efforts. He was also instrumental in the creation of the La Plata Community Clinic.

Cox, a board-certified infectious disease specialist, worked in a private clinical infectious disease practice in Denver for 22 years while he held numerous positions through his affiliation with six hospitals in the area and served on boards of multiple medical organizations.

In the early years of HIV/AIDS outbreak, he was integral in the development of new infection control guidelines that were adopted by health care systems throughout Colorado.

He has been recognized at the local, state and national levels including being listed in America’s Registry of Outstanding Professionals.

In 2003, Cox established a company called BioForecasts where he speaks, consults and writes about the biological future.

Since 2010, he has served as a peer review consultant to multiple independent review organizations giving medical opinions in complex health insurance cases under appeal.

Doctor to discuss emerging infections

Dr. Robert Cox, a board-certified infectious disease specialist, will give a presentation called “New Bugs, New Problems: Emerging Infections” from 7 to 8:30 p.m. March 3 at Fort Lewis College in Noble Hall, Room 130.

His presentation is part of the FLC Life-Long Learning Lecture Series in partnership with the Community Health Action Coalition.

Cox will talk about how to anticipate and prepare for future threats such as Chikungunya fever, Middle East respiratory syndrome, Ebola, pandemic influenza and drug-resistant superbugs.
