In an effort to combat elder isolation, seniors in Southwest Colorado have been offered free social visits through services provided by Amia: Friends for Elders.
The San Juan Basin Area Agency on Aging will fund social visits with Amia friends. Visits could include games, walks, conversations or other activities, depending on seniors’ preferences. Services do not include physical care.
Elder participants must be 60 or older and live in La Plata, Archuleta, Montezuma, Dolores or San Juan counties.
Amia friends must pass a background check, complete training and report to family members about the well-being of seniors.
