50 years ago: “The Grande Palace, Durango’s new luxury restaurant scheduled to open, came within an ace last night of not opening at all as it was the target of the third in a series of fires last night, all of which appear to have been deliberately set.”

25 years ago: “The Durango Friends, a small group of Quakers that meets weekly in a private home, will greet hundreds of fellow friends next week, when the Intermountain Yearly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends gather at Fort Lewis College. ... This year 550 Quakers – more than a third of those in the entire intermountain association – will gather for worship and discussion at FLC.”
