“The Spanish Trails Fiesta stagecoach started its daily runs to help publicize the celebration in August of 1964. The stagecoach takes the children for rides free of charge.”

100 years ago: “Everyone satisfied. Largest attendance ever. Best weather. Remarkable aeroplane flights, appeasing the curiosity of thousands who a week ago were skeptical. These things characterized the best Colorado-New Mexico Fair held in Durango in the 15 years that the people have had fairs here.”

75 years ago: “First-degree murder charges have bee filed against Jim Stephens for the fatal shooting of Franklynn Dean, town marshal of Mancos.”

50 years ago: “Everyone in the area is very happy that the Bessie G. mine is operating full time. It is located high in the La Platas. The ore is trucked about seven miles to the mill on Bedrock Creek. At present the mill operates 16 hours per day but will soon run on a 24 hour basis. The concentrate and some of the crude ore are tucked to El Paso, Texas, each week. Fifteen men are employed at present.”

25 years ago: “School District 9-R is seeing red over the war against drugs. The district is gearing up for its role in Colorado’s Red Ribbon Campaign, a one-week crusade, that is designed to draw attention to the drug problem in schools.”
