Do not sign Gwen Lachelt recall petition

The BLM Methane Rule was destined for gutting under the new administration. La Plata County Commissioner Gwen Lachelt’s conversation with Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., probably resulted in him casting the saving vote in the Senate.

Both Rep. Scott Tipton, R-Cortez., and Sen. Cory Gardner, R-Yuma., voted to repeal the well-proven protections for our health, safety and environment.

Their lack of concern for our air quality under the largest methane cloud in the nation is astounding. They also failed to acknowledge the potential creation of high-paying jobs in the methane mitigation industry which Gwen recognizes would help replace our decreasing revenues from oil and gas.

When Gwen stood up for air quality and for the economic boost that the methane rule provided, she was accused of a conflict of interest. Now a group is attempting a recall election that will cost us $60,000 if they can collect enough signatures.

If you live in La Plata County, much of what you like about this area is protected by leaders like Gwen Lachelt. Do not sign the petition to recall Gwen Lachelt!
