Letters: Tri-State delivers a clean, green future

Great news everyone. Tri-State, your member owned and controlled non-profit electricity supplier, is going 100% green!

With closures of coal fired power plants plus huge new wind and solar generation projects they’re on track to be 100% renewable by 2040. And the news just keeps getting better!

Tri-State will build a 120-megawatt solar farm right here in La Plata county. Clean, local, renewable solar generation that will provide 100% of Durango’s energy needs once online.

Plus, just west of us, near Dolores, Tri-State will build yet another 100-megawatt facility to serve Montezuma County.

Solar is coming to southwest Colorado big time. You can imagine the cost of these endeavors will be substantial.

Luckily, we don’t have to bear these expenses just on our shoulders. Being part of a large cooperative means costs get spread across the entire membership.

It’s a win-win: clean local renewable power at minimal costs.

It proves the cooperative model works so well for its members. Just as you and I own La Plata Electric Association and steer its path, so do you with Tri-State.
