The 2012 Durango High School graduate served as a student assistant coach for her college alma mater, California State University-Sacramento, during the 2016 season.
“I am very excited to be joining the Skyhawk athletics program,” Lovett said in a news release. “I knew I wanted to pursue coaching, so I am very happy about this opportunity.”
Lovett, who played for the Four Corners Volleyball Club through high school, was an outside hitter for the Hornets and completed her eligibility after the 2015 season. She graduated in 2016 and was named to the All-Big Sky second team in 2015 and was a primary starter for three seasons. She recored 1,216 career kills, which is 14th all-time for the Hornets and was a team captain her final two seasons.
“I am very excited to have Sloan join our staff,” FLC head coach Kelley Rifilato said in the news release. “Sloan had a fantastic collegiate career and will bring her knowledge to the Fort Lewis volleyball program.”
Lovett was a four-year starter for the Durango High School Demons and helped lead the team to two state tournament appearances as well as a pair of Southwestern League titles in 2010 and 2011. She was a first-team All-State selection as a senior.
Her parents, Robert and Valerie Lovett, live in Durango. Valerie played basketball from 1984-88. Lovett’s older brother, Bob, played one season of football for the Skyhawks.
The FLC volleyball team went 6-20 last year and 5-13 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Lovett replaces Tori Kaufman, who served on Rifilato’s staff for one season.
