As a resident of La Plata County, I am alarmed by the desire of some to recall County Commissioner Gwen Lachelt.
Twice I have voted for Gwen because she shares my values on the importance of a clean and healthy environment.
One of Gwen’s responsibilities as a county commissioner is as a representative to the Association of Counties’ Energy, Environment, and Land Use steering committee. It is part of her job to be in regular communication with federal and state officials regarding legislation and rule-making affecting La Plata County.
Personally, I applaud Gwen for her efforts in support of the Methane Rule in Washington, D.C. We in the Four Corners reside in a “methane hotspot.” Capturing methane is crucial to our health.
There seems to be a misunderstanding regarding Gwen’s attendance at required county meetings. To set the record straight, her attendance has been 91 percent.
As a concerned citizen of La Plata County, I urge registered voters not sign this petition to recall Commissioner Gwen Lachelt. If you feel compelled to do so, please at least be sure you are fully informed of all the facts surrounding this recall petition.
