100 years ago: A woman was in Durango selling groceries “for a Denver house,” and it was rumored that she had “some very attractive bargains to offer.”
75 years ago: Fishermen Jack Turner, Floyd Gregg, Eirwin Selby and Floyd Barnes, all of Durango, left for Mexico on a trip to do some deep-sea fishing.
50 years ago: Dolores teachers received a $200 salary increase, which would bring their base annual pay up to $5,200 starting Sept. 1.
25 years ago: Durango Police Department received several reports, including one that involved a young girl, of a large dog that was on a chain dragging a cinder block and biting people near the 3200 block of West Fourth Avenue. Animal control and police officers responded and were forced to shoot and kill the dog. While a rabies test was pending, the owner was cited for harboring a vicious dog the morning after.
