I am concerned about the misguided effort to recall County Commissioner Gwen Lachelt.
Gwen was re-elected in 2016 for a four-year term. She has an excellent attendance record at 91 percent of meetings. She was cleared of any conflicts of interest regarding her activities the Western Leaders Network (as was fellow Commissioner Brad Blake for his activities with Trout Unlimited) by both an independent third party (Eagle County attorney Bryan Treu) and the state of Colorado.
Gwen has not voted against any oil and gas interests. All three commissioners (including Republican Brad Blake) have voted to revise the 1980s Land Use Code. They have all realized there are some major issues with the current draft and are working to change it to reflect the desires of county residents.
If you do like Gwen Lachelt or disagree with her views, campaign for someone else in 2020 when her term expires. That’s how democracy works!
Please do not sign the recall petition and waste the taxpayers’ money, the county staff’s time and energy and divert Gwen and her fellow Commissioners from focusing on crafting a truly representative and useful land use code.
