100 years ago: Tomas Vigil and his two brothers, “who were ranching out La Posta way,” came into the city “for a look at the main drag.”

75 years ago: Mrs. Homer McKinley of Pagosa Springs received word that her brother, Stamey Edemisten, had been seriously injured in a plane crash at Williams Field, Arizona.

50 years ago: A Cortez family lost nearly all of its possessions in a “freak” fire that was classified as a highway accident. It started in a trailer and burned for 18 miles on U.S. Highway 666.

25 years ago: Police responded to 166 incidents in a 48-hour period, including 10 reports of illegal fireworks.
