Come get involved in the public process

Wow, I just read in the Herald this morning that 400 people attended a meeting to discuss the land-use code (Feb. 2). The article mentions that the district plans should be updated.

Unfortunately, I was unable to attend that meeting because as chairman of the La Plata County Planning Commission, I was at a planning commission meeting accepting a final version of an updated North County District Plan. I am trying to figure out how to reach out to the citizens of other districts, and setting a schedule through the end of the year for which district plans we would work on next.

For any of those 400 people who want to be involved in the district plan update process, feel free to join us on the first Thursday of every month at the County Administration Building.

We’ll be working on updating the remaining 11 district plans for at least the next 14 to 16 months. If you really, really, really want to be involved, apply for a position on the La Plata County Planning Commission.

You can join us and spend 60 to 70 hours per month of your time reviewing projects, documents, visiting project sites, reading through district plans, attending three meetings per month, etc.

And it won’t add a dime to your taxable income since we do it for free!
