Please help our friends who need our help

Tomorrow night is a fundraiser for my good friend Bob Cooper, whose lung cancer has unfortunately returned. Talk about an unwelcome houseguest!

Bob and his wife, Sandy, are among the many people in this community who tell you "Well heck yeah!" when you ask them for help, so I hope we can return the favor tomorrow.

A dinner starts at 5 p.m. at Spring Creek Hall with music by DJ Danny Jaques. Serious Texas BBQ is donating part of the dinner, so please thank them the next time you stop in. Then Wild Country will play for the dance starting at 8 p.m. To get to the hall, leave Ignacio on Colorado Highway 151, then turn on County Road 334.

Unfortunately in this country, whether or not you have health insurance or adequate savings, it seems that a devastating illness can wipe out all of your available funds pretty quickly.

Bob is an auctioneer and ran a wagon and sleigh business, often donating his wagon rides for community events, including Bayfield Heritage Days. He volunteered with me on the Heritage Days committee back in 2008 and 2009 when we were honestly just trying to keep the event going.

He's also been an active member in the Four Corners Mule, Carriage and Horse Association, and I know that's just a few of the organizations he and Sandy have helped over the years.

I hope to see you all there, and I hope you'll help as much as you can at the pie auction and silent auction.

To donate for the silent auction, call Char at 759-6055.

If you're coming and you can RSVP on facebook at Bob Cooper Cancer fundraiser, I know that would be appreciated, too.
