I was so happy to read that both Centura Health and Mercy Medical Center stood by their principles, beliefs and morals by not partaking in the secular assisting suicide proposition (Herald, Jan. 27). Much in the way The Little Sisters of the Poor stood up to Obama’s (un)Justice Department.
This apparently was much to the dismay of this far-left propaganda rag that put an op-ed on the front page as news. Wake up, it’s not a law! Both Mercy and Centura do not have to follow your baseless secular whims.
It wasn’t that long ago that Jack Kevorkian was stripped of his medical license, convicted of 2nd degree murder and sentenced to prison for assisting suicides. Then, find a doctor that will break his or her Hippocratic Oath. That would be one doctor I would never want to see for even a stubbed toe, much less a real health problem.
I have a friend who is an anesthesiologist and after watching a movie where a doctor was asked to, and then did, put a terminally sick dog to sleep, I asked if he or an MD would do that. He responded with an emphatic, “No!”
So, Herald, take your whimpering drivel and go cry somewhere else. People with convictions are not interested!

Editor’s Note: In November, Colorado joined five other states in passing Proposition 106: the Colorado End-of-Life Options Act, with 64.5 percent (1.765 million) voters in favor. It was signed into law December 16th and does include a provision to allow health providers to opt-out.
