Steamworks Brewing Co. will continue its Firkin Fridays series by tapping its “Hotpricot” firkin at 3 p.m. Friday.
The base of Hotpricot is Steamworks’ Steam Engine Lager, a lager noted for its malt sweetness and hop spice with a smooth, dry finish.
“The Hotpricot will be similar to a collaboration brew we did in years past with Dry Dock Brewing Co. when we blended elements of our Prescribed Burn (our popular chili beer) with their very popular Apricot Blonde ale,” said Steamworks Head Brewer Ken Martin, in a news release. “The sweet, caramel maltiness of the Steam should pair nicely with a delicate apricot character and a nice heat from the same chili puree that we use for the Prescribed Burn.”
A firkin is an old English unit of volume, typically a wooden cask equal to approximately one-quarter of a regular barrel, or nine-tenths of a gallon. The word “firkin” is derived from the Middle Dutch word “vierdekijn,” which means “fourth” as in one-fourth the size. Firkin beer is unpasteurized and unfiltered, contains no preservatives and is served at cellar temperature – cool but not cold.
Steamworks, 801 East Second Ave., began its Firkin Friday series to introduce unusual, specialty craft beers to patrons, and augment its regular offerings.
